Orlando Weather Update: Prepare for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Central Florida residents should brace for another week of wet weather. The FOX 35 Storm Team, led by Senior Meteorologist Noah Bergren, is closely monitoring a developing weather system bringing significant rainfall and strong winds to the Orlando area.

Rainfall Forecast: Potential for Flooding

Steady rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout the day. While brief periods of dryness are possible, the heaviest rainfall is anticipated to begin late morning and continue through the early afternoon. Areas could accumulate an additional 2-4 inches of rain before the day is over.

A Flood Watch has been issued for Brevard, Indian River, Martin, Saint Lucie, and Volusia counties due to the potential for flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas. Forecasters predict 1-3 inches of rain through Wednesday night, with some localized areas potentially receiving up to 7 inches due to slow-moving rain bands.

Wind Advisory in Effect

A Wind Advisory is currently in effect for Orlando and surrounding areas until 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph are expected, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 mph. These winds are strong enough to move unsecured objects, and could cause tree limbs to break, leading to possible power outages. The strongest winds will be concentrated along the Atlantic coast.

Dangerous Surf and Rip Current Risk

A High Surf Advisory is in place from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Thursday for Brevard, Volusia, and Flagler counties. Increasing onshore winds will generate dangerously rough surf with breaking waves reaching 8-12 feet. The risk of strong rip currents is high, and entering the water is strongly discouraged, even for experienced swimmers. Minor beach and dune erosion is also possible.

Regional Rainfall Breakdown

  • Orlando Area: Up to 2 inches of rain
  • The Villages & Ocala: Less than 2 inches of rain
  • Atlantic Coast: Several inches of rain possible
