Orlando Weather Update: Bracing for a Cold Snap

Central Florida is experiencing a significant temperature drop following severe thunderstorms on Monday. A powerful cold front has moved through, bringing not only cooler air but also the potential for freezing conditions in some areas. Residents near Ocala, Dunellon, and Gainesville should be particularly prepared, as freeze warnings and frost advisories are in effect.

Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories in Effect

The National Weather Service has issued the following alerts:

  • Freeze Warning: Parts of Marion, Alachua, and Gilchrist counties are under a freeze warning from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 30s for several hours.

Orlando Temperature Outlook

While Orlando itself is expected to remain slightly warmer, residents should still prepare for chilly conditions. Temperatures in the Orlando metro area will likely stay in the 40s overnight. However, areas further north, including The Villages, Ocala, and Gainesville, could see temperatures dip into the high 30s. Coastal areas like Cocoa Beach and Melbourne are expected to stay in the upper 40s and 50s.

Here’s a breakdown of expected low temperatures:

  • Orlando Metro: 40s
  • The Villages, Ocala, Gainesville: High 30s
  • Cocoa Beach, Melbourne: Upper 40s – 50s
  • DeLand: 30s

Record-Breaking Cold on St. Patrick’s Day

What Caused This Cold Snap?

A strong cold front swept through Central Florida on Monday afternoon, bringing with it strong storms, gusty winds, and a significant drop in temperatures. A brisk northerly wind has ushered in cooler, drier air, resulting in temperatures nearing record lows – though not for heat!

Looking Ahead

While Wednesday morning will be chilly, temperatures are expected to warm up into the 60s and 70s throughout the day. Stay tuned to local weather forecasts for the latest updates.
