Baltimore Weather: Weekend Forecast – Mild Saturday, Snow Expected Sunday

Baltimore Weather: A Tale of Two Days This Weekend

Baltimore residents can look forward to a pleasant start to the weekend, but a shift in the weather is on the horizon. Saturday promises mild temperatures and dry conditions, making it the ideal day for outdoor activities. However, Sunday is shaping up to be a different story, with rain and snow expected to move into the area.

Saturday: Enjoy the Sunshine!

Saturday will begin with a chilly morning, with temperatures dipping into the 30s. However, don’t let that deter you! By afternoon, temperatures are forecast to rise to near 50 degrees Fahrenheit, offering a comfortable and enjoyable day. Take advantage of this break in the weather – it’s the definite winner of the weekend for outdoor pursuits.

Sunday: Winter Returns with Rain and Snow

Unfortunately, the mild conditions won’t last. A large storm system is expected to pass through Baltimore on Sunday, bringing with it a combination of rain and snow. This pattern of weekend storms has become increasingly common in recent weeks.

While temperatures will remain above freezing during the day, creating a wet snow, a change is expected overnight. As temperatures drop, the precipitation is likely to transition to accumulating snow. The warmer ground and stronger February sun angle will initially limit accumulation, but as the sun sets and temperatures fall, snowfall rates could increase.

Snowfall Predictions: What to Expect

Current forecasts suggest that most of the Baltimore area could receive 3 to 5 inches of snow. Areas closer to the Chesapeake Bay are expected to see the lowest amounts, while higher elevations north of Baltimore, including Carroll and Baltimore counties, could experience snowfall totals ranging from 5 to 7 inches.

Important Note: It’s wise to be cautious with snowfall predictions. Models often overestimate totals. Factors like warmer ground temperatures (reaching 50 degrees the day before) and surface temperatures remaining above freezing for much of Sunday will impact accumulation.
