Austin Weather: Cool Front Arrives, Bringing Relief and a Chance of Showers

Austin Weather Update: A Shift in the Forecast

After a stretch of warmer temperatures, Austin residents can expect a significant change in the weather pattern this weekend. A cold front is moving in, promising cooler air and a chance of showers. Meteorologist Ali Turiano provides a detailed look at what to expect.

Cool Front Arrives Friday

The cold front is expected to move through late Friday morning and into the afternoon. While temperatures north of Austin will see a more dramatic drop, the city will still experience a noticeable cool-down. Expect highs ranging from the mid-60s to upper 70s. North winds could gust up to 35 mph as the front passes.

Weekend Outlook: Showers and Cooler Temperatures

Following the front, much cooler temperatures will settle in. There’s a 30% chance of showers around 8 p.m. Friday, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s. Saturday will remain cool, with highs only reaching the low to mid-60s. A slight chance of light showers persists Saturday morning, but rainfall totals are expected to be minimal.

Sunshine Returns Sunday

Good news for those craving warmer weather! By Sunday, south winds will return, bringing sunshine and climbing temperatures back into the low 80s. This brief respite will be welcome before another potential shift in the weather pattern next week.

Looking Ahead: Rain Chances Return Next Week

As a ridge of high pressure shifts east, it will open the door for disturbances to the west, increasing the chance of rain in North Texas again. Highs on Monday and Tuesday could approach 90 degrees, potentially bringing a return to warmer conditions.

Allergy Alert: Pollen Levels Remain High

For allergy sufferers, the news isn’t as pleasant. Tree pollen levels in the Austin area remain very high, while ragweed levels are moderate. Mold and grass pollen levels are currently low. During peak tree pollen season, experts recommend keeping windows and doors closed, especially on windy days. Avoiding outdoor activities in the early morning and showering after being outdoors can also help alleviate symptoms. Consider using allergy medication as recommended by AccuWeather: AccuWeather Austin Forecast.
