Dallas Weather: Severe Storms & Flood Risk Before a Dry Easter Sunday

Dallas Weather Update: Prepare for a Wet Weekend

Dallas residents, brace yourselves! While Easter Sunday promises a dry and cool day, the preceding days are shaping up to be quite soggy, with a significant risk of severe weather. Meteorologist Ali Turiano provides the latest forecast, urging residents to stay prepared.

Friday: Scattered Storms & Severe Weather Potential

Friday will begin with a calm and mild morning, but don’t be fooled. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to return by late afternoon, intensifying throughout the evening. The most significant threat for severe weather is currently located northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Key Hazards:

  • Damaging Winds: Strong gusts could cause power outages and property damage.
  • Large Hail: Hailstones could pose a threat to vehicles and structures.
  • Localized Flooding: Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.
  • Low Tornado Threat: While the risk is low, it’s not zero, and residents should remain vigilant.

Saturday: Continued Rain & Increasing Flood Risk

A cold front will bring additional heavy rain and storms through the first half of Saturday. While the severe weather threat is diminished compared to Friday, the risk of flooding is increasing significantly. The National Weather Service (https://www.weather.gov/) expresses high confidence that localized rainfall totals will exceed 3 inches.

Isolated areas north of Interstate 20 and west of Interstate 35 could see rainfall totals between 3 and 5 inches. Conditions are expected to gradually improve Saturday afternoon, starting from the northwest and moving southeast.

Easter Sunday: A Dry & Cool Respite

Good news for Easter celebrations! Sunday will be dry but cool and mostly cloudy. Expect high temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s, with light winds around 10 mph. It’s a perfect day for outdoor activities, but remember to dress accordingly.

Looking Ahead: A Return to Comfortable Weather… Briefly

Following the holiday, North Texas will enjoy several comfortable and dry days. However, the pattern is likely to shift again. Low rain chances return on Thursday as a potentially active weather system develops, with additional rain expected next Sunday.
