Snow Squall Watch: Toronto Braces for a Frigid Shift in Weather

Toronto is preparing for a significant and rapid change in weather conditions. After a brief respite of milder temperatures, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is bracing for a sharp drop, bringing with it the possibility of a snow squall, sub-zero temperatures, and dangerously cold wind chills.

According to 680 NewsRadio weather specialist Denise Andreacchi, Friday will offer a temporary warm-up, with daytime highs reaching around 5°C. However, this is short-lived. A strong cold front will move in Friday night, ushering in a frigid start to March.

What to Expect This Weekend

  • Saturday: Temperatures will fall below seasonal averages, with lows dipping near -10°C. The wind chill will make it feel like -19°C.
  • Saturday Night/Sunday Morning: Light snow is expected to move across the GTA, accumulating 2 to 4 centimetres. This could create slippery road conditions.
  • Sunday: Despite a daytime high near -10°C, strong winds will make it feel closer to -18°C. Overnight lows will plummet to -18°C, with wind chills potentially reaching -25°C, posing a significant risk of frostbite within 30 minutes.

The cold is expected to intensify as the weekend progresses. However, Andreacchi notes that a more typical early-spring pattern is anticipated to “lock in” by Tuesday, bringing temperatures back towards seasonal norms. It’s important to remember that milder temperatures can also bring the chance of mixed precipitation.
