Teacher’s Aide Charged with Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in Avondale, Arizona
AVONDALE, AZ – A teacher’s aide in the West Valley is facing serious felony charges following an investigation into allegations of a sexual relationship with an eighth-grade student. Jessenia Rodriguez, 22, has been arrested and booked into jail on multiple counts, sparking outrage and concern within the community.
The Investigation Unfolds
The investigation began after a stepmother of a Sun Valley Academy student overheard a rumour and, encouraged by other parents, examined her stepson’s phone. What she discovered led to a police investigation launched on March 31st. Investigators found evidence suggesting a sexual relationship between Rodriguez and the 15-year-old student.
According to court documents, the student revealed the relationship began with flirting during recess, eventually leading to the exchange of phone numbers. Communication escalated to FaceTime calls, with one instance occurring while Rodriguez’s child was present. The student alleges the first sexual encounter took place at his Avondale home in March, without the use of protection, prompting him to purchase a Plan B pill.
Concerning Texts and Discussions
Approximately two weeks later, Rodriguez allegedly sent the student three photos of positive pregnancy tests. Court records detail conversations where the pair discussed “rough intercourse” and the potential for miscarriage. A second encounter reportedly involved the use of a condom, followed by a third on a park bench near the student’s home.
The student claims Rodriguez repeatedly urged him to keep their relationship secret, fearing severe consequences if discovered. Following an interview with police, the teen reportedly called Rodriguez, informing her that his parents were aware and upset. Rodriguez allegedly denied any sexual contact and claimed she was being “set up.”
Evidence Recovered from Phone
A search of the student’s phone revealed dozens of images and messages, including text conversations where Rodriguez shared photos of pregnancy tests and discussed abortion options. Snapchat messages further implicated Rodriguez, with her expressing desires for the student and detailing a sexual dream. Deleted messages reportedly contained admissions of enjoyment after one of their encounters.
The investigation also uncovered communications with an individual named “Nina,” to whom the student confessed his involvement with an older woman seeking an abortion. “Nina” allegedly offered to drive Rodriguez to an abortion clinic and promised confidentiality.
Arrest and Charges
On Thursday, police executed a search warrant at Rodriguez’s Tolleson home and arrested her. During questioning, Rodriguez admitted to three sexual encounters but denied the third. She acknowledged knowing the student’s age and understanding the wrongfulness of her actions.
Rodriguez is currently facing four counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation. Her bond has been set at $100,000 cash-only. This case highlights the critical importance of vigilance and reporting potential abuse to protect vulnerable youth.
