Miami Lakes House Fire Displaces Family of Five
MIAMI LAKES, FLA. – A significant fire ripped through a home in Miami Lakes on Thursday afternoon, leaving a family of five displaced. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to reports of the blaze near the 8900 block of Northwest 148th Terrace shortly before 2 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke billowing from the attic and garage. Crews swiftly initiated fire suppression efforts, cutting through the roof to access and extinguish the flames, while simultaneously ventilating the interior to remove hazardous smoke.
Quick Response Prevents Injuries
Fortunately, two individuals were inside the residence at the time of the fire and managed to escape unharmed before contacting 911. MDFR Battalion Chief Angel Colom described the situation, stating, “Unknown where the smoke was coming from. We had crews inside, they didn’t see any smoke so it was in the attic, so we opened up the roof, we ventilated it some and, ultimately, found the fire.” He confirmed, “Nobody got hurt and all occupants were out.”
Community Support for Displaced Family
The family, who preferred not to be identified, had been renting the home and are now facing the challenge of finding new accommodations. The American Red Cross is currently providing assistance to help them navigate this difficult time. The family has also launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking public support to secure a safe place to stay.
Investigation Ongoing
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to determine the origin and contributing factors of the incident. Updates will be provided as they become available.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety and having working smoke detectors in every home. For more information on fire prevention, visit the U.S. Fire Administration website.
