Accenture Acquires Ookla: Boosting Network Intelligence with Speedtest and Downdetector

Accenture to Acquire Ookla, Powering the Future of Network Intelligence

BARCELONA, March 3, 2026 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Ookla, a global leader in network intelligence, competitive benchmarking, and customer experience analytics. This strategic move will integrate Ookla’s renowned data products – including Speedtest®, Downdetector®, Ekahau®, and RootMetrics® – into Accenture’s offerings, enabling Communications Service Providers (CSPs), hyperscalers, and enterprises to optimize their mission-critical Wi-Fi and 5G networks.

The Growing Importance of Network Data

Network data is no longer solely vital for the telecommunications industry. It’s becoming a crucial asset across all sectors, driving significant value. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to scale, the insights gleaned from network, device, and application layers are essential for enhancing fraud prevention in banking, optimizing smart home analytics in utilities, and improving traffic flow in retail. Ookla’s platform, capturing over 1,000 attributes per test, provides the foundation for these critical insights.

“Modern networks have evolved from simple infrastructure into business-critical platforms,” said Julie Sweet, chair and CEO, Accenture. “Without the ability to measure performance, organizations cannot optimize experience, revenue, or security. By acquiring Ookla, we will help our clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations they need to deliver the reliable, seamless connectivity that creates value.”

Ookla’s Portfolio: A Deep Dive into Connectivity

Headquartered in Seattle, Ookla boasts a portfolio of globally recognized brands in connectivity. Manish Sharma, chief strategy and services officer at Accenture, highlighted the importance of this technical visibility:

“With the Ookla portfolio, we will offer end-to-end network intelligence services essential for AI-based transformation,” said Sharma. “Speedtest and RootMetrics define the experience; Downdetector identifies incidents faster; and Ekahau drives digital workplace transformation through superior Wi-Fi. In an era of omni-channel and agentic access, low-latency, zero-friction connectivity is a competitive necessity, and these tools give enterprises the power to build the high-performance environments they need.”

A Synergistic Partnership

Founded in 2006 and formerly a division of Ziff Davis, Inc., Ookla comprises approximately 430 experts specializing in software engineering, radio frequency engineering, and data science. The company’s data platform is powered by over 250 million consumer-initiated tests each month, supplemented by controlled drive, walk, and embedded testing options. This rich combination of Quality of Service (QoS), Radio Frequency (RF) signal data, and Quality of Experience (QoE) insights delivers comprehensive connectivity analysis and drives improved business outcomes.

Stephen Bye, CEO of Ookla, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition:

“Joining Accenture will allow us to scale our premiere network data business across the world’s largest enterprises and accelerate our goal of creating better connected experiences,” said Bye. “Our combined capabilities will enable us to more effectively serve CSPs, AI infrastructure providers, edge data centers and enterprise networks. Together, we will redefine how the world measures, understands and experiences connectivity.”

The acquisition is subject to standard closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Financial terms remain undisclosed.
