Ziaire Williams: A Bright Spot in Brooklyn’s Future
Ziaire Williams is known for his consistently positive attitude. Always sporting a smile and radiating good vibes, the 24-year-old recently shared his thoughts on the Brooklyn Nets’ trajectory at a Special Olympics event held at the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center.
“We have something very special brewing here in Brooklyn,” Williams stated to NetsDaily. “A year or two from now, we’ll be in the mix for the playoffs and winning a lot more games.” He expressed his trust in the front office, particularly General Manager Sean Marks, and extended gratitude to Joe Tsai for his belief in him.
Uncertainty and Gratitude
While optimistic, Williams acknowledges the current challenges. He admits it’s uncertain whether he’ll still be with the Nets when they reach that level of success. “If I can end my career here, I would be more than happy and grateful,” he said, “But it is out of my control, so I just try to stay present in the moment and try to make as much of an impact as I can.”
Williams has a $6.3 million team option for next season, a reasonable contract considering his performance. He’s proven to be a valuable bench player, offering a 3-and-D skillset. In 112 games, including 52 starts, he averages 9.8 points in 22 minutes per game, with shooting splits of 43/33/84. His two years in Brooklyn have seen his best scoring seasons and most playing time since being drafted 10th overall.
Building a Relationship with Coach Fernandez
Consistency remains an area for growth, but Williams has demonstrated flashes of brilliance and speaks highly of his head coach, Jordi Fernandez. “We definitely have built a great relationship over the two years I have been here,” Williams shared. “Jordi is a great coach, his office doors are always open, and he is always looking for feedback.” He emphasized his role within the team’s leadership group, stating, “As a part of the leadership group of our team, it is my responsibility to bring all of our problems to Jordi. That has resulted in a great bond.”
Community Involvement: A Core Value
Beyond basketball, Williams is deeply committed to community service. He recently spent time with the New York Wildcats, a team preparing for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota. The event, sponsored by UnitedHealthcare and Special Olympics New York, provided a valuable practice session for the athletes.
“I love everything about this man,” Special Olympics New York tweeted. “I feel like both basketball and helping out others are my purpose in life.” Williams echoed this sentiment, expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to connect with the athletes. See the event highlights here.
“Sharing the court with these athletes is an incredible honor,” Williams added. “Their commitment, teamwork, and love for the game inspire me, and I’m excited to support them as they get ready for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.” He actively participated in drills and offered encouragement to both the athletes and camp staff.
Looking Ahead Despite Challenges
Despite the Nets’ current struggles – holding a 17-52 record in the Eastern Conference – Williams maintains a positive outlook. While the team’s performance has been disappointing, his uplifting attitude remains a valuable asset. His dedication to both the game and the community makes Ziaire Williams a player to watch, both on and off the court.
