President Trump’s Unusual Affection: The Nickname for Kimberly Guilfoyle
President Donald Trump has revealed a rather peculiar pet name he’s adopted for Kimberly Guilfoyle, the ex-fiancée of his son, Donald Trump Jr. Guilfoyle, a prominent figure in political circles – also known as a vocal critic of California Governor Gavin Newsom (her ex-husband) and currently serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece – was the recipient of this unusual moniker during a Greek Independence Day celebration at the White House.
“I love calling her ‘Kimber-lay,’ that’s my little pet name, right?” Trump reportedly said, inviting Guilfoyle to join him on stage in what many observers described as a bizarre moment. He continued, praising her and expressing hope for her continued service, “But you are the greatest, and I heard they love you over there. And I hope you come back here in 12 years or whenever the term ends.”
A History of Relationships and Political Roles
Guilfoyle, 57, and Donald Trump Jr. ended their six-year relationship in December 2024. Shortly after, President Trump announced his intention to nominate Guilfoyle for her current ambassadorship. Prior to her relationship with Trump Jr., Guilfoyle was married to Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006, and previously to businessman Eric Villency.
The separation between Newsom and Guilfoyle occurred in 2004, coinciding with Newsom’s ascent to the mayorship of San Francisco. Their divorce was finalized two years later. Donald Trump Jr., 48, is now engaged to socialite Bettina Anderson, 39.
Awkward Moment for Guilfoyle’s Son
During the President’s impromptu speech, Guilfoyle’s son, Ronan Anthony Villency, was present and reportedly had to witness the President’s public display of affection towards his mother. This added another layer of awkwardness to an already unusual situation.
Controversial Past Comments Resurface
Guilfoyle’s appointment as ambassador was not without controversy. Past comments she made about Greek citizens resurfaced, drawing criticism. In a 2015 appearance on Fox News’ The Five, Guilfoyle referred to Greek citizens as “freeloaders,” arguing they were overly reliant on government assistance. She urged them to “suck it up” and work harder, criticizing what she perceived as early retirement and unsustainable political promises.
She even went so far as to say, “It doesn’t matter if you made great yogurt. I don’t care,” and compared addressing Greece’s debt crisis to “training a dog” that “pees on the rug.”
Trump’s History of Nicknames
This isn’t the first time President Trump has bestowed nicknames upon political figures. He’s famously dubbed Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary,” Kamala Harris “Comrade Kamala” and “Lyin’ Kamala,” and Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.” Within his own team, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is known as “Ice Baby” or “Ice Queen” due to her reserved demeanor.
This latest incident highlights President Trump’s penchant for unconventional behavior and his tendency to create memorable, often controversial, moments.
