Pennsylvania State Trooper Killed in Chester County Shooting

WEST CALN TWP., Pa. – A Pennsylvania State Trooper, Corporal Timothy O’Connor, tragically lost his life during a routine traffic stop in Chester County on Sunday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Pennsylvania State Police and the wider community.

Details of the Incident

According to investigators, Corporal O’Connor responded to a call around 8 p.m. regarding an erratic driver in the Honey Brook area. He initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 10 and Michael Road in West Caln Township. Lt. Col. George Bivens stated that Corporal O’Connor radioed in to report the stop, which was his last communication.

The situation escalated rapidly. Within seconds of approaching the vehicle, the 32-year-old driver opened fire, fatally striking Corporal O’Connor. “Within seconds, as he approached the car, the driver opened fire from inside the vehicle and struck him just as he approached the driver’s side of the vehicle,” Lt. Col. Bivens explained.

Following the shooting, the suspect exited the vehicle, walked a short distance, and took his own life. Authorities have classified the incident as a murder-suicide.

Official Response and Mourning

Governor Josh Shapiro, visibly moved, addressed law enforcement officials outside Paoli Hospital, expressing the profound loss felt by the Pennsylvania State Police family. “The Pennsylvania State Police family lost a son, lost a hero, and lost a dedicated public servant,” Shapiro stated. He has ordered flags across Pennsylvania to be flown at half-staff in honor of Corporal O’Connor.

A solemn procession carried Corporal O’Connor’s body from Paoli Hospital to the coroner’s office in West Chester, with aerial coverage provided by Chopper 6. The procession underscored the deep respect and grief felt for the fallen trooper.
