Silvino Louro: A Life Remembered – Tributes Pour In for Former FC Porto Goalkeeper
The football world mourns the loss of Silvino Louro, a beloved figure at FC Porto and beyond, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 67. Tributes have been flooding in from former colleagues, players, and fans, celebrating a life dedicated to the beautiful game.
André Villas-Boas Remembers a Close Friend
André Villas-Boas, current president of FC Porto, attended both the wake and funeral on Saturday, sharing heartfelt memories of his time with Louro. Their professional relationship spanned multiple clubs, including FC Porto, Chelsea, and Inter Milan, forging a strong bond of friendship.
“We shared many adventures, from FC Porto to Chelsea and Inter Milan, where we became particularly close and shared moments of great friendship. He was a friend who leaves us, betrayed by illness. The illness ultimately takes a very good, very simple man, but with great courage. He was a great human being, very gentle, and a person who everyone cherished in their hearts and will miss dearly. That’s why we saw such widespread support and sentiment from many clubs, from FC Porto to Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and, of course, the clubs Silvino represented, as well as many other sporting and social institutions,” Villas-Boas recalled.
Villas-Boas extended his condolences to Silvino’s family, acknowledging his significant contributions to FC Porto both as a player (1995/96 and 1996/97 seasons) and as a goalkeeper coach (2000/01 to 2003/04). “Our feelings, on behalf of FC Porto, go to Silvino’s family, not only for his career as an athlete but also as a goalkeeper coach. A person who conquered and sweated a lot for the club and gave many titles to the club. Therefore, on behalf of the entire Football Club Porto, my feelings to his wife and all his family.”
A Final Farewell and Notable Attendees
Before the funeral at Feijó, prominent agent Jorge Mendes paid his respects at the wake held at the Central Mosque of Lisbon. Former Benfica teammates Valdo and Hernâni also joined in honoring Louro’s memory.
