Mens Curling Standings: Thrilling Action at Milano Cortina 2026
The ice is calling, and the competition is fierce at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games! Curling fans are on the edge of their seats as teams battle for a coveted spot in the semi-finals. Here’s a recap of the latest action and a look at the current womens curling standings.
Switzerland Secures Semi-Final Berth
In a nail-biting match on Wednesday evening, Switzerland clinched their semi-final qualification with a 6-4 victory over Denmark. A crucial score of three in the tenth end sealed the deal for the Swiss team. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams demonstrating exceptional skill and strategy.
Switzerland blanked the first end and then took a two-point lead in the second, thanks to a precise draw by Alina Paetz. Denmark responded with two points of their own, leveling the score at 2-2. The teams traded points throughout the game, with Denmark briefly taking the lead in the sixth end. However, Switzerland’s strong play in the tenth end proved decisive.
“Qualified sounds very good to me,” said a delighted Swiss skip Silvana Tirinzoni after the match. “It was hard to get there, so we’re relieved that we made it – on a game early actually. Tomorrow is still important but now not life or death.” Tirinzoni expressed confidence in her team’s ability to compete against any opponent, adding, “I think we’re strong enough to face every opponent. I think we have played well enough to win this to be honest.”
Great Britain Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
Great Britain also delivered a strong performance, defeating Japan 9-3 in a decisive victory. This fourth win keeps their mathematical chances of reaching the semi-finals alive. Great Britain dominated the game, scoring three points in the second end and adding a steal of one in the third. Rebecca Morrison’s skillful play was a key factor in their success.
“That was a great evening at the office,” said British skip Sophie Jackson. “We debriefed the game earlier, figured out what we needed to do better and yeah, we just did it!” Jackson highlighted the team’s resilience under pressure, stating, “We love that pressure. The resilience of this team when we’re kind of down and out is just amazing.”
Canada and Sweden Also in the Mix
Canada narrowly defeated Italy 8-7 in an extra end, with Rachel Homan securing the win with a precise draw. Sweden, already qualified for the semi-finals, continued their impressive form with a 9-4 victory over People’s Republic of China.
The Road to the Semi-Finals
With Sweden and Switzerland already guaranteed their spots, four other teams – Canada, Republic of Korea, United States of America, and Great Britain – are still vying for a place in the semi-finals. The final round-robin session on Thursday promises to be filled with excitement and drama.
