Louisville Basketball Pursues Sixth Consecutive Victory
DALLAS — The No. 21 ranked Louisville Cardinals (19-6, 8-4 ACC) are looking to secure their sixth consecutive win as they take on the SMU Mustangs (17-8, 6-6) in a rematch at Moody Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Following a successful road trip stop with an 82-71 victory over Baylor last Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, the Cardinals are riding high. Freshman point guard Mikel Brown Jr. has been a standout performer, recently earning the Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week award after a stellar 45-point performance against N.C. State and a game-high 29 points against Baylor, adding six assists and five steals.
“I love where our team’s at,” said head coach Pat Kelsey after the Baylor win. “I love my team — love everything about them. I love the competitive makeup of it. I love the pieces and the talent they bring together. I love their approach. I love their professionalism. I love their selflessness. I love my team.”
A Quad 1 Opportunity for Louisville
SMU, led by second-year coach Andy Enfield, currently ranks 38th in KenPom.com’s adjusted efficiency rankings and 36th in the NET. This positions today’s game as a significant Quad 1 opportunity for Louisville, boosting their NCAA Tournament resume.
The Mustangs have shown resilience since their initial loss to the Cardinals on January 31st at the KFC Yum! Center, going 2-2. They recently suffered a narrow 79-78 loss to Syracuse, decided in the final seconds of regulation.
