John Cena’s Potential Return to Wrestling: Jeff Jarrett Urges Unretirement

The wrestling world continues to speculate about a possible return to the ring for John Cena. Despite previously indicating his wrestling days are behind him, many believe the 16-time world champion still has something to offer. This sentiment is echoed by AEW star Jeff Jarrett, who recently made a public plea for Cena to reconsider his retirement.

On his “My World” podcast, Jarrett directly addressed Cena, stating, “Unretire.” He believes Cena could significantly contribute to WWE even with a limited schedule. “So, if John is not going to be, I’ll call it an active participant of the roster, I’m just kind of curious to see where all that goes. The business is better with John Cena in it. There’s just no gray area, no matter what role they figure out for him.”

A Part-Time Schedule: The Brock Lesnar Model

Jarrett suggests a similar approach to Brock Lesnar, who appears sporadically throughout the year. “If Brock is working two to four times a year, Cena can work x amount of the time.” He emphasizes that Cena’s presence, regardless of the capacity, is a boon for the industry. The impact of a star like Cena extends beyond just in-ring performance; his name recognition and charisma draw audiences.

Drawing Power Beyond the Ring

Jarrett drew parallels to the late, great Hulk Hogan, highlighting how legendary figures can continue to attract fans even well into their 50s. He believes Cena possesses that same enduring appeal. Wrestling Inc. reports that Jarrett sees Cena as a valuable asset in numerous roles within WWE.

The Stumbling Block: Contract Negotiations

However, Jarrett acknowledges the potential hurdle in any negotiations: money. He believes TKO, WWE’s parent company, will need to be willing to meet Cena’s financial demands. “There’s all kinds of on-screen roles that he can be a part of the active roster. I just don’t know if TKO will see it that way. I don’t know what John’s price tag is. That to me is where it’s going to get right down to it. What is TKO willing to pay? And whatever they’re willing to pay, what’s John willing to do?”

Jarrett remains optimistic, suggesting Cena could handle “two to four matches a year.” However, Cena himself has recently indicated he’s content remaining with the WWE family in a non-wrestling capacity. He’s exploring opportunities outside the ring, focusing on other ventures while maintaining his connection to the sport he loves.

Cena’s Current Stance

Despite the calls for his return, Cena has publicly ruled out a full-time or even part-time return to wrestling. He has expressed his desire to remain involved with WWE, but not as an active competitor. This suggests a potential role in commentary, mentoring, or other behind-the-scenes capacities.
