Tokyo Stabbing Incident: Woman Arrested at Rihga Royal Hotel
A shocking incident unfolded at the Rihga Royal Hotel in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward on Friday night, leaving a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s injured. Local police have arrested Aiko Kobayashi, 58, on suspicion of attempted murder.
Details of the Attack
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred at a restaurant on the hotel’s first floor around 9:30 p.m. The male victim made an emergency call reporting he had been stabbed. Both victims were promptly transported to a hospital by ambulance.
The female victim sustained significant injuries to her right eye and both shoulders, requiring an estimated two weeks of treatment. The male victim suffered minor injuries. Kobayashi was apprehended at the scene and has reportedly admitted to the attack, stating, “I don’t remember why I stabbed them.”
Investigation Reveals Potential Motive
Authorities believe a pre-existing dispute may have fueled the violent act. Investigators have revealed that the three individuals were dining with friends when Kobayashi allegedly stabbed the woman in the back of the head with a small knife she had brought with her. Sources indicate the dispute stemmed from a prior relationship issue.
The Rihga Royal Hotel is conveniently located approximately 500 meters north of Waseda Station and in close proximity to Waseda University, a prominent educational institution in Tokyo. You can find more information about the area on the Waseda University website.
