Brit Awards 2026: A Night to Remember in Manchester
The biggest names in pop and rock are converging on Manchester as the 46th Brit Awards approaches! This year marks a historic moment – the first time the ceremony has ventured outside of London since its inception in 1977. Leading the charge with an impressive five nominations each are London-based artists Olivia Dean and Lola Young. The eclectic mix of nominees also includes recognition for Lily Allen’s deeply personal album, tracks from the hit movie musicals Wicked and KPop Demon Hunters, and a highly anticipated best group nomination for the iconic Britpop band, Pulp.
What to Expect from the 2026 Brit Awards
Three years after his electrifying performance of “As It Was” at the Brits, Harry Styles is set to return to the stage. This time, he’ll be performing “Aperture,” the captivating single from his upcoming album, Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally. Speculation is rife about whether he’ll recreate the visually stunning music video, complete with its dynamic dance sequence. Rehearsals are under tight wraps at Manchester’s Co-Op Arena, with access limited to essential personnel only.
Adding to the excitement, Styles will also be featured in a comedic sketch alongside host Jack Whitehall. Whitehall revealed that some of his initial ideas were rejected by Styles’ team, including a humorous concept involving a “Hagrid-esque” Styles living in seclusion.
A Shift in the Landscape: A More Competitive Year
Recent years have seen dominance from a select few artists – Harry Styles in 2023, Raye in 2024, and Charli XCX in 2025. However, 2026 promises a more competitive landscape. The “Best British Artist” category is particularly fierce, with Olivia Dean, Lola Young, Lily Allen, Dave, Sam Fender, and PinkPantheress all vying for the coveted title.
Olivia Dean is currently considered the frontrunner for “Best Album” with her critically acclaimed record, The Art of Loving, which has topped the charts on four separate occasions. However, she faces stiff competition from Mercury Prize winner Sam Fender and Lily Allen, whose honest and raw album about her marriage resonated deeply with audiences.
Honouring a Legend: A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
The Brit Awards will pay a poignant tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, the “Godfather of Heavy Metal,” with a posthumous lifetime achievement award. A special performance featuring a reimagined arrangement of his 1991 hit “No More Tears,” curated by his wife Sharon Osbourne and led by Robbie Williams, will honour his enduring legacy. With the Foo Fighters playing in Manchester the night before, speculation is mounting about a potential appearance to pay their respects.
Pulp’s Return and Jarvis Cocker’s Reflections
Pulp’s nomination for “Best Group” comes 30 years after frontman Jarvis Cocker’s infamous stage invasion during Michael Jackson’s performance at the 1996 Brit Awards. Cocker, protesting Jackson’s perceived messianic image, famously disrupted the performance with a provocative display. Reflecting on the incident, Cocker stated that the nomination feels like a way to be remembered for his music, rather than solely for that moment.
Celebrating Songwriting and Production Excellence
Mark Ronson will receive the “Outstanding Contribution” award, recognizing his impressive catalogue of hits, including “Back To Black,” “Uptown Funk,” “Dance The Night,” and “Valerie.” Noel Gallagher will be honoured with the “Songwriter of the Year” award, despite admitting he hasn’t written a song in two years. PinkPantheress is making history as the first woman to win “Producer Of The Year,” calling the achievement “bittersweet.” Finally, Jacob Alon, a rising star in the folk music scene, will receive the “Rising Star” prize.
