The community of Saint-Nicéphore is mourning after a devastating accident claimed the life of a young child. On Friday evening, emergency services were called to a residence on Claude Street, where a heartbreaking scene unfolded in a family backyard.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. A 5-year-old child was found unconscious at the bottom of a swimming pool. Despite the rapid response of emergency teams and immediate resuscitation efforts performed on-site, the child was transported to a nearby hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
“We were called for a child found in a pool. Resuscitation maneuvers were performed on the 5-year-old, and they were subsequently transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, their death was confirmed,” explained Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The authorities are working diligently to understand the sequence of events that led to this tragedy. Coroner Donald Nicole has been assigned to the case, and several police officers remain on the scene to gather evidence and conduct a thorough investigation.
