Vancouver, BC – A recent report by Opensignal has shed light on the performance of Canada’s major mobile carriers, revealing a fierce competition for the top spots. The study, conducted between October 1st and December 29th, assessed Rogers, Telus, and Bell across a range of categories measuring customer connectivity experiences.
Telus Takes the Lead in Awards
The results show that Telus is now the leading operator, securing a total of ten awards – eight jointly and two outright. Rogers closely follows with nine awards (five jointly and four outright). This indicates a highly competitive landscape where providers are constantly striving to improve their services.
Reliability and Consistency: A Tight Race
According to the report, Rogers and Telus are tied for the best reliability and consistency. Reliability measures how often users can successfully complete common tasks on their devices, while consistency reflects the stability of that connection. Telus achieved a score of 945 out of 1000 for reliability, with Rogers closely behind at 944. Bell scored 932. In terms of consistency, both Telus (82.9%) and Rogers (82.8%) were statistically tied.
5G Performance: Bell Leads in Download Speed, Telus Competes
While Telus excels in overall awards and consistency, Bell takes the lead in 5G download speed, achieving 194.8 megabits per second – over 24 megabits per second faster than Telus. However, Telus and Rogers tied for the top spot in overall download speed. Rogers also boasts superior upload speeds, both overall (13.1 megabits per second) and for 5G (25.3 megabits per second).
5G Availability and Rogers’ Network
The report also highlights Rogers’ strong 5G availability, meaning users with 5G devices and subscriptions are more likely to detect a 5G signal on their network. This is a crucial factor for users looking to take advantage of the faster speeds and lower latency offered by 5G technology.
These findings are significant for Canadian consumers as they navigate the choices available in the mobile carrier market. Opensignal’s comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each provider, helping users make informed decisions.
