Air Canada Invests in the Future with Airbus A350-1000

Air Canada has announced a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, a significant upgrade to its long-haul fleet. This commitment, previously undisclosed as of November 2025, marks a pivotal moment in the airline’s strategy for global expansion and enhanced passenger experience.

Boosting Connectivity and Efficiency

The Airbus A350-1000 offers substantial economic advantages and reduced operating costs for Air Canada. Its industry-leading range of up to 9,000 nautical miles (nm) will be instrumental in establishing seamless, non-stop connections from Canada to rapidly growing markets in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia. This expansion will open up new travel opportunities and strengthen Air Canada’s position on the global stage.

“Air Canada’s continued global ambitions are solidified by the selection of the Airbus A350-1000, a natural next step in the evolution of our fleet,” stated Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada. “The aircraft brings state-of-the-art capabilities and improved efficiencies to Air Canada, unlocking new long-haul opportunities around the globe. With the Maple Leaf adorning the tail, the Airbus A350-1000 will play a central role in defining Air Canada’s next era, connecting our customers, our hubs, and our country to the world.”

A Technological Marvel for Passenger Comfort

Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, highlighted the A350-1000 as “the most technologically advanced widebody on the market.” This isn’t just about fleet modernization; it’s about Air Canada’s commitment to setting new standards in range, performance, and, crucially, customer satisfaction.

The A350-1000 is designed for ultra-long-haul comfort, featuring the innovative Airspace cabin. Passengers will enjoy the lowest altitude and noise levels of any aircraft cabin, promoting wellbeing during extended flights. The aircraft incorporates state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamic design, resulting in unmatched efficiency and comfort.

Sustainability and Future-Proofing

The A350-1000’s next-generation Rolls-Royce engines and lightweight materials contribute to a 25% reduction in fuel burn and emissions compared to previous generation aircraft. Furthermore, the A350 is currently capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100% SAF compatibility by 2030. This demonstrates Air Canada’s and Airbus’s commitment to a more sustainable future for air travel.

As of January 2026, the A350 Family has garnered over 1,500 orders from 67 customers worldwide, solidifying its position as a leading aircraft in the industry.
