Winnipeg Goldeyes Battle Back: Game 2 Preview After West Division Series Opener
The excitement of the postseason is in full swing, but it hasn’t been an easy start for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. In a high-stakes opening match of the West Division Series, the Goldeyes faced a tough challenge against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, falling 5-1 in Game One at Newman Outdoor Field.
With the RedHawks now leading the best-of-three series 1-0, the pressure is on for Winnipeg to defend their home turf and keep their playoff dreams alive.
Game 1 Recap: RedHawks Seize the Momentum
The game began as a defensive stalemate, with neither team able to break the deadlock through the first two innings. However, the tide turned sharply in the bottom of the third. Following consecutive singles by Jesús Lujano and Juan Fernández, left fielder Eric Filia delivered a crushing three-run home run to right field, giving Fargo-Moorhead an immediate 3-0 lead.
The RedHawks continued to apply pressure in the seventh inning, adding two more runs thanks to hits by Fernández and Filia, capped off by an RBI single from Tripp Clark and a scoring hit by Dillon Thomas. This pushed the lead to a commanding 5-0.
A Late Spark for the Goldeyes
The Goldeyes didn’t go down without a fight. In the top of the ninth, Winnipeg finally broke the shutout. A strong effort by Noah Marcelo and Keshawn Lynch set the stage for first baseman Roby Enríquez, who drove in Marcelo with a base hit to centre field, bringing the final score to 5-1.
On the mound, Landen Bourassa took the loss, allowing five runs on 11 hits over 6 2/3 innings. Meanwhile, Fargo-Moorhead’s Kyle Crigger dominated the game, striking out nine batters over 8 2/3 innings to secure the win.
The Road to Recovery: Game 2 at Blue Cross Park
The series now shifts to Blue Cross Park, where the atmosphere is expected to be electric as the Winnipeg Goldeyes fight to force a deciding Game Three. To stay in the hunt, a victory on Friday is non-negotiable.
