Werder Bremen vs. Bayern Munich: A Challenge Without Olise

The Bundesliga clash between Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich (Saturday, 3:30 PM live on Sky Sport) will see Bayern without the impactful Michael Olise for the first time since his arrival. The French winger is serving a suspension, presenting a tactical challenge for manager Vincent Kompany.

Olise’s Impact and the Suspension

Since joining Bayern Munich on July 1st, 2024, Michael Olise has quickly become a vital component of the team. In 89 appearances, he’s netted 33 goals and provided 48 assists, showcasing his exceptional attacking prowess. He’s featured in 55 Bundesliga matches for the record champions, scoring 22 goals and delivering 36 assists. Olise’s consistency has been remarkable; he hadn’t missed a Bundesliga game in 539 days – a streak that will unfortunately end this Saturday.

The suspension stems from a yellow card received during the 5-1 victory against TSG Hoffenheim, where he also contributed with an assist. Despite the setback, Kompany remains optimistic. “Michael has been outstanding so far,” he stated on Friday. “A suspension can happen. But the main thing is he isn’t injured.”

Who Replaces Olise? Kompany’s Options

Prior to joining Bayern, Olise faced recurring thigh problems during his time at Crystal Palace, but has been consistently reliable for the Bavarian giants. Kompany acknowledged the need for a replacement, stating, “We have the opportunity to replace Michael in this one game. Another player can be happy about getting playing time.”

All signs point to Lennart Karl stepping in on the right wing in Bremen. Luis Diaz is expected to start on the left flank, with Jamal Musiala positioned centrally behind Harry Kane. This provides a potent attacking trio, even in Olise’s absence.

Kompany has a nearly full squad available, with no reported injuries aside from Olise’s suspension. The good news is that Olise will be available for selection again the following Saturday.
