Tottenham vs. Atlético Madrid: Injury Updates and Team News
As Tottenham Hotspur prepares to face Atlético Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, manager Igor Tudor faces a challenging situation with several key players potentially unavailable. The match, scheduled for Wednesday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (8pm UK time), comes after a closely contested first leg in Madrid.
Injury Concerns and Doubtful Players
Igor Tudor provided an update on Tuesday afternoon, revealing that Conor Gallagher and Dominic Solanke are both doubtful for the crucial clash. Gallagher is battling a virus, while Solanke is dealing with a minor injury. The manager stated, “We’ve some good news, but also some bad news because Conor (Gallagher) is not here, and Dom (Solanke) has some small problems, so we’ll see tomorrow how he is.”
Adding to the injury woes, Joao Palhinha, who sustained an injury in the first leg, will miss the return match. Richarlison is also sidelined due to a one-match suspension after accumulating three yellow cards. Souza and Yves Bissouma are ineligible for selection.
Players Returning to Contention
Despite the setbacks, there’s some positive news for Tottenham fans. Tudor indicated that Destiny Udogie and Lucas Romero may be available for a limited role in the game. “Destiny and Lucas will be on the bench tomorrow – one part of the game, not too much because they just started training with us, but it’s good to see them,” Tudor explained. He also confirmed Romero’s availability, stating, “Romero? He’s there. He can play.”
Conor Gallagher’s Condition
Addressing concerns about Conor Gallagher’s absence from training, Tudor revealed the player has been struggling with a virus, potentially linked to his asthma. “We’ll see today what we can do, because he has, as you know, probably asthma problems. He gets some virus, which is not a nice thing. We’re going to see if he’s able tomorrow to go on the bench, we hope. It’s nothing like a danger, but still, he’s not able to play.”
Looking Ahead
Tudor anticipates that two or three more players will be fit to return for their upcoming match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The team will need a strong performance against Atlético Madrid to advance in the Champions League, and the availability of key players will be crucial to their success.
