Seattle Seahawks: Where Will Kenneth Walker III Land in 2026?
The reigning Super Bowl MVP is headed toward free agency and a potential payday. The Seattle Seahawks declined to use the franchise tag on Kenneth Walker III ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, meaning unless he and the team reach an agreement before free agency opens next week, Walker will test the open market. So where might the star of Super Bowl LX land? How much might a running back who has only barely broken 1,000 yards twice (in the regular season) in four years command in salary?
We have one week to make our predictions; it’s time to forecast where K9 is headed in 2026. Here’s a look at six potential new homes for Walker if he leaves Seattle:
1. Carolina Panthers
Despite head coach Dave Canales’ insistence on establishing a tandem backfield, it became clear that Rico Dowdle was Carolina’s best back in 2025, logging 1,076 rushing yards and six rushing scores. Dowdle is also headed toward free agency. While Chuba Hubbard returns on his rookie deal, the Panthers could benefit from replacing Dowdle and improving their 19th-ranked rushing attack, especially with Bryce Young entering a pivotal season. Canales’ connection to Walker, having served on the same Seattle staff, adds to the appeal.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak is now the head coach in Las Vegas and has publicly stated he’d like to add a running mate for 2025 first-rounder Ashton Jeanty. While the Raiders have needs across the board, pairing Walker with Kubiak, who guided Jeanty to a stellar season, could be a potent combination. A strong running game would also benefit projected No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.
3. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals’ season faltered after James Conner’s injury, highlighting their reliance on a strong running back. While Conner could return, GM Monti Ossenfort needs to ensure Mike LaFleur doesn’t face the same backfield struggles. A trio of Walker, Conner, and Trey Benson would be a significant upgrade, though securing Walker will likely require a premium offer.
4. Denver Broncos
The Broncos need more firepower at running back. J.K. Dobbins, their 2025 leading rusher, is headed to free agency. With $25.2 million in cap space, Denver can afford to make a splash and bring in Walker to bolster their offense.
5. Washington Commanders
Washington has ample cap space ($72.3 million) and numerous needs. After relying on rookies Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Chris Rodriguez Jr., the Commanders should explore adding a proven talent like Walker. Jayden Daniels could greatly benefit from a dynamic running back alongside him.
6. Minnesota Vikings
Unless significant cap maneuvering occurs, a move to Minnesota is unlikely given their current financial situation. However, the Vikings are in the market for a running back, with Aaron Jones potentially departing. Walker’s dynamic abilities would complement their future quarterback.
