Ron Harper Jr. Mania: Celtics Bench Players Draw Massive Fan Crowd
BOSTON — A vibrant green line snaked down the street, a testament to the unwavering passion of Celtics fans. For hours, they waited in the April sunshine, eager to meet the guests of honor. While many were local, the crowd represented a global fanbase, with fans traveling from as far as South Dakota, Germany, and Australia. The destination? I Love Boston Sports, a small store brimming with Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots merchandise.
But the draw wasn’t Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. It was Ron Harper Jr., Jordan Walsh, and Luka Garza – three Celtics bench players who, despite experiencing limited playing time this season, have captured the hearts of fans.

On the final off-day of the regular season, the trio arrived at I Love Boston Sports to sign autographs and pose for photos with enthusiastic fans. For two hours, they graciously interacted with supporters of all ages.
The ‘Bus 1 Boys’ Phenomenon
Fans eagerly purchased special “Bus 1 Boys” t-shirts and posters featuring Baylor Scheierman, Hugo Gonzalez, Garza, Harper Jr., and Walsh depicted as a five-person boy band, with the Celtics schedule cleverly presented as tour dates. See the shirt here.
Marie, a dedicated Celtics fan of 40 years, drove two hours for the meet-and-greet. “These three have embodied what this Celtics season has been all about,” she explained. “To us, they are heroes.”
Fan Favorites Despite Limited Minutes
Luka Garza, signed to a minimum contract in the offseason, quickly became a fan favorite with his relentless hustle. Despite facing periods where he was out of the rotation, his dedication resonated with fans. One fan, Dale, admitted to being nervous about the Nikola Vucevic trade, fearing it would impact Garza’s playing time. “That’s my boy!” he exclaimed.
Ron Harper Jr., recently securing his first standard NBA contract after four two-way deals and a significant shoulder injury, beamed throughout the afternoon. A young fan in a Banner 18 jersey proudly declared, “Mr. Harper! You’re my favorite player.”
Jordan Walsh signed countless #27 jerseys, playfully teased by teammates about their popularity. Garza and Harper Jr. applauded as Walsh connected with his fans.

Chris, a fan who drove three hours from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, emphasized the importance of the event. “I just wouldn’t miss it,” he said. “I’m so excited for the playoffs. It’s absolutely worth it.”
A Season Worth Celebrating
Farrell, a fan since the pandemic, credited his unwavering belief in Payton Pritchard for the Celtics’ success. Another fan, Chris Breen, travelled all the way from Canada, sporting a bright green beard. Angela, a long-time fan, acknowledged that while Boston typically only celebrates championships, she was making an exception for this remarkable season. “In Boston, we only celebrate championships,” she said. “But just once, I’m making an exception. I’m celebrating this season.”
The incredible turnout for Ron Harper Jr., Jordan Walsh, and Luka Garza demonstrates the deep connection between the Celtics and their fans, proving that even bench players can become heroes in the hearts of the Boston faithful.
