French Players Shine in Dubai ATP 500 Qualifying
Two French tennis players, Quentin Halys and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, are making waves in the qualifying rounds of the prestigious Dubai ATP 500 tournament. Both players secured victories today, inching closer to a coveted spot in the main draw.
Mpetshi Perricard Dominates Mochizuki
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard kicked off the day with a commanding performance against Shintaro Mochizuki. Leveraging a powerful serve, Mpetshi Perricard fired an impressive 20 aces, overwhelming the Japanese player for the second time in their head-to-head matchups. The match concluded with a score of 6-1, 7-6 in 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Currently ranked No. 58, Mpetshi Perricard is looking to rebound from a recent streak of five consecutive losses on the main tour. He will now face Jan Choinski, who previously defeated Jesper de Jong (6-1, 7-6 in 1h28) in his qualifying match.
Halys Overcomes O’Connell’s Challenge
Quentin Halys also secured a crucial win, successfully navigating a challenge from Christopher O’Connell with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 16 minutes. This victory is particularly encouraging for Halys, who reached the semifinals of this very tournament last year.
The world No. 72 will next battle Alexander Shevchenko, who eliminated Nikoloz Basilashvili (7-6, 6-4 in 1h17). Halys will be looking to capitalize on his past success in Dubai and continue his strong form.
Joining the Already Qualified French Contingent
Both Mpetshi Perricard and Quentin Halys are aiming to join their fellow countrymen – Arthur Fils, Arthur Rinderknech, Valentin Royer, and Ugo Humbert – who have already earned their places in the main draw.
