
Canada Basketball Announces Home Games Against Puerto Rico and Jamaica
HAMILTON, Ontario (February 23, 2026) – Canada Basketball, in partnership with TD Coliseum and Oak View Group, is thrilled to announce that the Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) will host back-to-back home games in Window Three of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers this July in Hamilton, Ontario. This marks a significant step in Canada’s journey to qualify for the prestigious tournament.
The highly anticipated schedule features a clash against Puerto Rico on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 7:00 PM EST, followed by a matchup against Jamaica on Monday, July 6, also at 7:00 PM EST. Both games will be held at the state-of-the-art TD Coliseum in Hamilton, and will be broadcast live on TSN, bringing the excitement directly to fans across the nation.
Recent Performance and Current Standings
The SMNT last played in Hamilton on July 1, 2022, securing a victory against the Dominican Republic during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers. Canada kicked off the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers with impressive wins against the Bahamas in both Nassau (November) and Toronto (December). Currently, the team boasts an undefeated record with four points, sharing the top spot in Group C alongside Jamaica. They will complete Window Two with away games against Puerto Rico on February 26 and Jamaica on March 1.
Qualification Pathway to the 2027 FIBA World Cup
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers feature 16 teams divided into four groups of four. The top three teams from each group – a total of 12 teams – will earn a coveted spot in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, which will be held in Qatar. Canada is currently ranked fifth in the FIBA Men’s World Ranking, presented by Nike, a position solidified following their performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
