Steven Dubois Strikes Gold in Men’s 500m Short Track at Milano Cortina 2026
Milano Cortina 2026 witnessed a spectacular performance by Steven Dubois, who clinched the gold medal in the men’s 500m short track speed skating event. From the starting gun, Dubois took command of the fast-paced, four-and-a-half lap race and never looked back, establishing a significant lead over his competitors.
Teammate William Dandjinou also competed in the final, but unfortunately received a penalty. Despite this, Dubois’ victory marks a historic moment for Team Canada, representing their first medal in a men’s individual short track event at these Games.
A Legacy of Speed: Canada’s 500m History
Canada boasts a rich history in the men’s 500m event, having previously secured seven medals – two gold, two silver, and three bronze – since the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics. Dubois himself added to this legacy, building upon his bronze medal win in the 500m at Beijing 2022. This latest triumph brings his career Olympic medal count to an impressive five.
Momentum for Team Canada
This gold medal victory came on the heels of another Canadian success, with the women’s 3000m relay team securing a bronze medal just 30 minutes prior. This double podium finish demonstrates the strength and dedication of Team Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
