Jrue Holiday: Under on Points

Jrue Holiday has been on a scoring tear for the Portland Trail Blazers, but we predict a slight slowdown tonight. The Houston Rockets present a tough defensive matchup, particularly against guards. Houston currently ranks fifth in defensive rating and operates at the second-slowest pace in the league. They’re allowing the fourth-fewest points per game to point guards (23.7).

While Holiday has scored 23+ points in his last three games, he only managed 13 in his previous encounter with Houston. His season average is 16.6 points per game. His recent hot streak is fueled by unsustainable shooting percentages (60.8% from the field, 56.0% from beyond the arc), suggesting negative regression is likely. Given the difficult matchup and potential shooting correction, the under on Holiday’s points line is a strong play.

Jalen Brunson: Over on Points

The New York Knicks face a challenging road game against the Denver Nuggets, and we’re backing Jalen Brunson to score at least 27 points. Over the last 15 games, Denver has allowed the most points per game to point guards (27.7). They rank just 21st in defensive rating for the season, allowing 115.5 points per game on zero days rest.

Brunson’s season average (26.5) is close to the line, and despite a recent scoring slump (averaging 21.4 points over his last nine games), he’s faced tough defenses like the Rockets, Thunder, Pistons, and Spurs. This matchup against Denver is more favorable, and the game has the potential for a high score (spread: NYK -1.5, total: 229.5).

Austin Reaves: A Prime Opportunity

With LeBron James potentially sidelined due to playing in a back-to-back, Austin Reaves is poised for a significant role. When LeBron is off the court, Reaves boasts a 29.8% usage rate and averages 27.9 points per 36 minutes. The Indiana Pacers, who have struggled recently, are a favorable matchup.

Indiana has allowed at least 125 points in six consecutive games and is currently first in pace and 27th in defensive rating. They’ve surrendered the most points per night to small forwards (30.8) over the last seven games. Reaves previously exploded for 36 points when LeBron sat against the Celtics, and we anticipate another strong performance tonight.
