Kamaru Usman Takes Over Middleweight: The Epic Showdown with Dricus du Plessis at UFC Oklahoma

A Clash of Titans: Kamaru Usman and Dricus du Plessis Set to Ignite UFC Oklahoma

The fight game is buzzing as the UFC returns to the “Sooner State” this weekend. The Paycom Center in Oklahoma City is preparing to host an electrifying event, UFC Oklahoma, taking place this Saturday, July 18, 2026. Streaming live on Paramount+, the main event promises a high-stakes collision between two elite warriors: former middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis and the legendary former welterweight king, Kamaru Usman.

While some might view this as an unconventional pairing, seasoned MMA fans know that this matchup is pivotal for both fighters’ legacies.

The Redemption Arc of Dricus du Plessis

For Dricus du Plessis (DDP), this fight is about more than just a win—it’s about redemption. Since losing his 185-pound title in a grueling battle against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319, DDP has been itching to get back into the Octagon. This bout serves as his first major test since the title loss, and he is looking to prove that he remains a dominant force in the middleweight division.

Kamaru Usman: A New Chapter at Middleweight

The most intriguing storyline, however, revolves around Kamaru Usman. Known for his absolute dominance at 170 pounds, Usman is stepping into the middleweight shark tank with a new level of preparation.

Many remember Usman’s previous foray into the 185-pound division at UFC 294, where he stepped in on incredibly short notice to face Chimaev. Despite the lack of a full camp, Usman displayed remarkable resilience, losing via a close majority decision while looking impressively competitive. Now, for the first time, Usman enters a middleweight bout with a full training camp, raising the question: *Can the “Nigerian Nightmare” conquer a second weight class?*

Fight Details and Weigh-In Updates

The anticipation has reached a fever pitch following the early morning weigh-ins. Both fighters have successfully hit the 186-pound benchmark, confirming they are physically ready for this war.
