Jerrod Calhoun Named Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats
The Cincinnati Bearcats have officially found their next leader in men’s basketball. According to reports from CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander, the university has reached an agreement with Utah State head coach Jerrod Calhoun. This marks a homecoming for Calhoun, a proud alumnus of the University of Cincinnati.
A Return to Cincinnati
Calhoun, 44, will take the reins from Wes Miller, who recently departed after five seasons to become the head coach at Charlotte. While Miller oversaw the program’s transition from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12, he wasn’t able to lead the Bearcats to an NCAA Tournament appearance. His overall record at Cincinnati was 100-74.
Calhoun’s Impressive Track Record
Jerrod Calhoun brings a proven track record of success to Cincinnati. He recently guided Utah State to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2025 and 2026, with the Aggies making a strong run to the Round of 32 before falling to Arizona. Prior to his tenure at Utah State, Calhoun served as the head coach at Youngstown State from 2017-2024, where he amassed a 118-106 record over seven seasons.
Throughout his nine seasons as a Division I head coach, Calhoun has compiled an impressive overall record of 173-121. His coaching journey began at Fairmont State (Division II) from 2012-2017, and he also gained valuable experience as an assistant coach at Walsh and West Virginia, notably working under Bob Huggins from 2008-2012.
Early Career and Playing Days
Calhoun’s connection to the University of Cincinnati runs deep. He graduated from the institution and served as a student assistant under the legendary Bob Huggins in 2004. Before his coaching career, Calhoun played college basketball for two seasons at Cleveland State under Rollie Massimino.
Looking Ahead for the Bearcats
The Bearcats finished the 2025-26 season with an 18-15 overall record and a 9-9 mark in Big 12 play. With Jerrod Calhoun at the helm, the program is poised for a new era, fueled by his experience, leadership, and deep ties to the university. Fans are eager to see how Calhoun will build upon the foundation and lead the Bearcats to future success in the competitive Big 12 Conference.
