Inter Milan Faces Crucial Test Against Como Without Lautaro Martinez

Cristian Chivu, Inter Milan’s head coach, has challenged his team to replicate the leadership and determination displayed against Roma as they prepare for a pivotal Serie A clash against Como. This match takes on added significance with the absence of injured captain Lautaro Martinez.

Speaking to DAZN before kickoff, Chivu addressed the context of the title race, the challenges posed by Como, and the responsibility on his players to step up in Martinez’s absence. He remained focused on Inter’s performance, despite Napoli’s earlier draw potentially widening the gap at the top of the league.

Focus on Inter’s Performance

“We think about ourselves and our competitiveness,” Chivu stated. “We know that on this pitch today it will not be simple. We face an opponent with important Champions League ambitions and are aware that we must be our best version to bring home the result.” This sentiment underscores Inter’s commitment to controlling their own destiny in the title race.

Addressing Como’s Threat

Como is known for their high-pressing style and intense gameplay. Chivu outlined the approach Inter will take to counter this threat. “We must not change what we are and do what we prepared during the week. So we must show courage and personality and understand the moments of the match. We must do nothing different, the same as we did against Roma in terms of personality. We must respond blow for blow, understanding what to do at each moment.”

Leadership in Lautaro’s Absence

With Lautaro Martinez sidelined, the question of leadership naturally arises. Chivu pointed to last Sunday’s performance as evidence that his squad is capable of stepping up. “They showed it last Sunday. I do not forget the performances of Thuram, Calhanoglu, Barella, all the players who pulled out something extra in terms of leadership and personality in the difficult moments.”

Inter Milan’s success this season hinges on their ability to maintain consistency and resilience, especially in the face of adversity. The match against Como represents a significant opportunity to solidify their position at the top of Serie A and continue their pursuit of the Scudetto.
