Hayden Hurst Announces Retirement from the NFL
After seven seasons in the National Football League, former Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst has announced his retirement. The news broke on Monday via an Instagram post, marking the end of a promising career for the 32-year-old athlete.
From South Carolina Gamecock to NFL Draft Pick
Hurst’s football journey began at the University of South Carolina, where he played from 2015 to 2017. His talent and potential quickly garnered attention, leading to his selection by the Baltimore Ravens as the 25th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This marked a significant milestone, launching his professional career.
A Career Spanning Multiple Teams
Throughout his NFL tenure, Hurst showcased his versatility and skill across several teams. He initially spent time with the Ravens, followed by stints with the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to the 2023 season, he joined the Carolina Panthers, hoping to contribute to their offensive lineup.
Final Season with the Panthers & Chargers
In his single season with the Panthers, Hurst started in eight of nine games, amassing 18 receptions for 182 yards and one touchdown. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a concussion sustained during the Week 10 loss against the Chicago Bears. He briefly played with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 before deciding to retire.
Impact and Legacy
Hayden Hurst’s career, while relatively short, was marked by dedication and a commitment to the game. He consistently demonstrated his ability to contribute as a receiving threat and a reliable target for quarterbacks. While his time on the field may be over, his impact on the teams he played for and the fans who cheered him on will be remembered.
