Charlotte FC Returns to Defend The Fortress
It’s time to defend The Fortress! Charlotte FC returns to North Carolina after a challenging road trip against Western Conference opponents St. Louis and the LA Galaxy, just in time for a crucial five-match homestand. The Crown will face Austin FC this Saturday, March 7th, in front of the best supporters in Major League Soccer. Kickoff from Bank of America Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Power of the Home Crowd
Charlotte FC has consistently excelled in front of its passionate home crowd. Last year, The Crown boasted the most home wins in MLS with 13, tying with the Philadelphia Union for the most points earned at home. Impressively, they also conceded the third-fewest goals! Bank of America Stadium has become a notoriously difficult venue for visiting teams, and any points earned there are hard-fought.
Last season’s home opener saw a dominant 2-0 victory over rivals Atlanta United, setting a high standard for all teams visiting the Queen City. Now, it’s time to recreate that energy and atmosphere. The players thrive on the energy supporters bring, and a packed stadium is vital for securing a win.

Scouting Austin FC
Austin FC has started the season strongly, drawing 2-2 with Minnesota United and securing a 1-0 victory over D.C. United at home. After two matches, the Texas side ranks among the league leaders in shots on target. This means Charlotte FC goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina (currently leading the league in saves) and the backline will need to be at their best to contain Austin’s attack.
Austin has bolstered its attacking line with the addition of Facundo Torres, formerly of Orlando City SC, and Jayden Nelson, who played a key role in the Whitecaps’ MLS Cup Final appearance. These new additions will undoubtedly pose a threat to Charlotte’s defense.
Focusing on Self-Improvement
Charlotte FC’s coach has emphasized the importance of focusing on the team’s own performance. In the opening two matches, The Crown occasionally lost its defensive shape, with too many players pushing forward and leaving the team vulnerable to counter-attacks. Maintaining positional discipline and applying consistent pressure will be crucial against Austin FC.
Saturday’s match presents a perfect opportunity for the squad to regroup, regain its identity, and build momentum at home. The energy of the home crowd will be a significant factor in achieving this.
