Cedric Coward Injury Update: Grizzlies Rookie Faces Knee Concerns
Memphis Grizzlies wing Cedric Coward exited the game against the Golden State Warriors on February 9th with just 2.9 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The rookie is currently listed as doubtful to return due to a knee injury.
The injury occurred during a rebounding attempt. Coward landed awkwardly after jumping for the ball, falling to the floor. While he attempted to continue playing, visibly limping during the subsequent Grizzlies possession, his movement was clearly impaired. He subsequently headed to the locker room and did not return for the start of the second half at Moda Center.
Pippen Jr. Steps In
Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. replaced Coward in the lineup. Before leaving the game, Coward had contributed 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Coward’s Impactful Rookie Season
Selected with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Cedric Coward has quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier rookies. Entering the game against the Warriors, he was averaging an impressive 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 47 appearances. His absence is a significant blow to the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies will undoubtedly be closely monitoring Coward’s condition. A prolonged absence could significantly impact their playoff push. Further updates on his injury will be provided as they become available.
