Caleb Wilson Injury Update: Will UNC’s Star Forward Play Against Clemson?
The North Carolina Tar Heels will face a tough test against the Clemson Tigers on March 3rd at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. However, a significant question mark hangs over the game: the availability of star freshman forward Caleb Wilson. According to the ACC’s availability report, Wilson is currently out for the matchup.
Wilson’s Injury and Recovery
Wilson suffered a fractured left hand during the game against Miami on February 10th. The injury sidelined UNC’s leading scorer and rebounder, a major blow to Hubert Davis’s team. He’s averaging an impressive 19.8 points per game (fourth in the ACC) and 9.4 rebounds (third in the ACC).
Fortunately, there’s positive news regarding Wilson’s recovery. Coach Davis recently announced that Wilson has had his cast removed and is actively participating in individual workouts. While he can dribble, shoot, and catch, contact drills and five-on-five play remain off-limits for now.
UNC’s Performance Without Wilson
Despite Wilson’s absence, the Tar Heels have demonstrated resilience, winning four of their last five games. This speaks to the depth and coaching of the UNC program. However, his impact is undeniable, and his return would significantly boost their chances.
Clemson’s Perspective
Clemson coach Brad Brownell acknowledges Wilson’s talent but believes his team is prepared to face North Carolina regardless. “He’s an incredible talent, player, but I think Hubert’s done an unbelievable job,” Brownell stated on March 2nd. Clemson (21-8, 11-5 ACC) is looking to secure a third consecutive win against UNC, a feat the program hasn’t achieved in its history.
Looking Ahead
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. While Wilson’s return isn’t imminent for this particular game, his progress is encouraging. He is currently projected as a top-five pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, highlighting his potential. Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on his recovery and a potential return to the court soon.
