Bradley Chubb: Dolphins Release Pro Bowl Pass Rusher – What’s Next?

Bradley Chubb Released by the Miami Dolphins

In a significant roster move, the Miami Dolphins have released two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb, as reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. This decision, anticipated after a contract restructure last year, will result in a $31.2 million cap hit for 2026, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Chubb was a key contributor when healthy, leading the Dolphins in sacks in both 2023 (11 sacks, league-leading 6 forced fumbles) and 2025 (8.5 sacks). His 2024 season was unfortunately sidelined by a torn ACL. Now, entering his age-30 season, Chubb will be a highly sought-after free agent.

A Diminishing Pass-Rushing Unit

This release marks another shift in Miami’s pass-rushing strategy. Over the past four months, the Dolphins have gone from a touted trio of Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Chop Robinson to just one – Robinson. Phillips was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in November. With other edge rushers like Cameron Goode and Quinton Bell also pending free agents, Miami faces a substantial rebuild of their pass-rushing corps.

Cap Implications and Draft Strategy

The Dolphins currently hold the No. 11 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Releasing Chubb provides financial flexibility, saving the team $7.3 million as a pre-June 1 release or $20.2 million as a post-June 1 cut. This move helps Miami navigate the salary cap and potentially address other needs, including the future of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

What’s Next for Bradley Chubb?

Despite recent injuries, Chubb boasts an impressive career total of 48 sacks and is expected to attract significant interest from multiple teams. His proven ability to generate pressure and force turnovers makes him a valuable asset for any defense. He has demonstrated a high level of play and should have plenty of opportunities to continue his NFL career.
