Boston Scott Announces Retirement from the NFL
Former Philadelphia Eagles running back, Boston Scott, has officially announced his retirement from the National Football League. The announcement came via a post on his Instagram page, marking the end of a six-season career primarily defined by his time in Philadelphia.
A Six-Year Journey with the Eagles
Initially drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, Scott quickly found a home with the Eagles after being released by the Saints in December of the same year. He spent his entire NFL career with Philadelphia, becoming a valuable contributor as a backup running back and special teams player.
Over 75 games (including 12 starts) from 2018 to 2023, Scott consistently demonstrated his versatility and reliability. While never a featured back, he proved to be a crucial piece of the Eagles’ offensive puzzle.
Career Highlights and the ‘Giant Killer’ Nickname
Scott’s most productive season came in 2020, where he recorded career-highs with 374 rushing yards and 212 receiving yards. Throughout his career, he amassed 302 carries for 1,295 rushing yards, 71 receptions for 566 receiving yards, and an impressive 17 total touchdowns.
However, Scott will likely be most remembered by Eagles fans for his dominance against the New York Giants, earning him the affectionate nickname “Giant Killer.” In 10 career games against the Giants, he racked up an astounding 422 rushing yards, 222 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. This consistent performance against a divisional rival cemented his place in Eagles lore.
Looking Ahead
“Looking forward to the next chapter of my life,” Scott wrote in his retirement post. While his playing days are over, the impact he made on the Philadelphia Eagles and their fanbase will not be forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a knack for delivering when it mattered most.
