Bill Belichick Faces Lawsuit Over On-Property Injury
Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is being sued for nearly $300,000 by a painter who claims he was injured while working at Belichick’s Nantucket home. The lawsuit, filed in Nantucket Superior Court, alleges unsafe working conditions led to the injury.
Details of the Incident
Andrew Jackson, the plaintiff, filed a civil lawsuit against Forty Five Fair Street LLC, a Massachusetts corporation managed by Bill Belichick, according to court records. Jackson alleges that in June 2024, while working on the property, he slipped on plastic sheeting and sustained a right ankle injury. The lawsuit claims that construction practices directed by the homeowner, general contractor, or their agents created a hazardous work environment.
Specifically, the suit points to “the placement, use, and/or maintenance of plastic sheeting or coverings” as contributing to the unsafe conditions. Jackson, a resident of Mississippi, asserts that this negligence directly resulted in his fall and subsequent injury.
Financial Impact of the Injury
Jackson is seeking approximately $300,000 to cover lost wages and medical expenses incurred as a result of the injury. The lawsuit details the financial burden caused by the incident, highlighting the impact on Jackson’s livelihood.
Belichick’s Recent Transition and Nantucket Connection
This legal matter arises shortly after Bill Belichick concluded his 24-year tenure with the Patriots and assumed the head coaching position at the University of North Carolina. His first season with the Tar Heels resulted in a 4-win record.
Nantucket holds a special place for Belichick, serving as a consistent retreat throughout his NFL career, which included stops in Detroit, Denver, New York, and Cleveland. As he stated in a 2017 interview with N Magazine, “Nantucket has always been a constant.” He purchased the single-family home in question for $4.8 million in May 2024, as reported by the Boston Globe. Belichick often spends his offseasons at his compound in Sconset, a location where he famously worked remotely during the 2020 NFL draft due to pandemic restrictions.
Current Status of the Lawsuit
As of Monday, no response has been filed on behalf of Forty Five Fair Street LLC or Bill Belichick. Attempts to reach Belichick for comment have been unsuccessful.
