First Flakes! BC Ski Resorts See Unexpected Summer Snow

While most of us are still soaking up the final rays of the August sun, the mountains are sending us a chilly wake-up call. • Panorama: Possibly the most impressive of the bunch, Panorama reported a solid dusting that gave the upper mountain a legitimate mid-winter appearance. With over 4,600 feet of vertical drop, the sight of its 3,000 acres turning white is enough to lift any skier’s spirits.

The U.S. Front: Crystal Mountain Leads the Way

While the Canadian Rockies were stunning, Crystal Mountain in Washington may have won the race to the first flake. Snow hit the high alpine terrain around Northway and Silver King Peak, allowing the resort to claim the bragging rights of being the first U.S. destination to see snow for the 2026-27 season.
