Aston Martin Hands Crawford Another FP1 Chance at Suzuka

Aston Martin is continuing its commitment to nurturing young talent by giving reserve driver Jak Crawford another opportunity to showcase his skills during a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The American racer will participate in the opening practice session at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix at the iconic Suzuka circuit.

Crawford, 20, will take the wheel of Fernando Alonso’s AMR26, marking his third FP1 appearance for the team. He previously drove in practice sessions at Mexico City and Abu Dhabi last season. This continued investment in Crawford highlights Aston Martin’s dedication to developing the next generation of Formula 1 drivers.

Crawford’s Enthusiasm for Suzuka

“I’m really excited to get behind the wheel and drive for the team at Suzuka,” said Crawford. “It’s such a historic yet demanding circuit, and I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned in the simulator to real track conditions. A big thank you to the team for giving me this opportunity. As with my previous FP1 sessions, I’m looking forward to making the most of it and learning as much as I can.”

Aston Martin’s Development Focus

Aston Martin Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack emphasized the importance of this opportunity for Crawford’s development. “It’s great that we’re able to give Jak another opportunity in FP1 as part of our ongoing commitment to developing young talent,” Krack stated. “He has been working hard, especially in the simulator back at Silverstone, and this session will allow him to continue building valuable track experience. It’s an important opportunity for him to keep progressing, while also contributing to the team by gathering useful data and feedback.”

Crawford’s Racing Background

Crawford’s impressive racing resume includes a strong performance in Formula 2, where he finished as runner-up to Leonardo Fornaroli last season. Prior to that, he secured race wins in both Formula 3 and Formula 4, demonstrating his consistent ability to compete at a high level. His progression through the junior formulas has been closely watched by the Aston Martin team.

This opportunity at Suzuka is a crucial step in Crawford’s journey towards a potential full-time Formula 1 seat. Fans can follow his progress and the entire Aston Martin team throughout the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
