NHL Trade Rumors: Potential Moves for Key Players
The NHL offseason is already heating up with speculation surrounding potential trades and free agent signings. Recent reports suggest several key players could be on the move, impacting team strategies across the league. Let’s dive into the latest buzz, focusing on Vincent Trocheck, Sergei Bobrovsky, and Jordan Binnington.
Vincent Trocheck: A Trade Opportunity for the Rangers?
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported last Thursday that the limited depth in this summer’s free-agent pool could benefit the New York Rangers in their efforts to trade Vincent Trocheck. Teams in need of a strong center are likely to explore the trade market, potentially increasing their willingness to meet the Rangers’ asking price for the 32-year-old. Trocheck has three years remaining on his contract, with an average annual value of $5.625 million.
He currently holds a 12-team no-trade list, which reduces to 10 teams on July 1st. Trocheck has expressed a preference to remain in the Eastern Conference. Before the trade deadline, the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and Minnesota Wild were reportedly interested in acquiring Trocheck and could revisit those discussions this summer.
Sergei Bobrovsky: Contract Negotiations with the Panthers
The Florida Panthers briefly considered trading Sergei Bobrovsky before the deadline, as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. However, the team retained the 37-year-old goaltender with the intention of re-signing him. According to Friedman, these negotiations could prove challenging.
The Bobrovsky camp initially sought a contract comparable to the six-year, $5.25 million average annual value deal Brad Marchand received last summer. The Panthers, however, were reportedly unwilling to meet that demand. A potential compromise could see Bobrovsky sign a two or three-year deal worth just over $5 million annually.
Jordan Binnington: Limited Interest from the Hurricanes?
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported that the Carolina Hurricanes briefly inquired about St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington. However, those discussions didn’t progress very far.
Binnington, 32, has one year remaining on his contract with an average annual value of $6 million. He carries a 14-team no-trade list this season, which will become a 10-team clause on July 1st. The Blues are expected to meet with Binnington after this season to discuss his long-term future with the team.
