Alex Bowman Returns to NASCAR at Bristol Motor Speedway
CONCORD, N.C. – Exciting news for NASCAR fans! Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, has received medical clearance to return to competition. He will be back behind the wheel for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The 32-year-old driver has been sidelined, missing races at Phoenix Raceway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, and Martinsville Speedway while recovering from a bout of vertigo. The symptoms first surfaced during the March 1st race at Circuit of The Americas, forcing Bowman to exit the car on lap 71.
Bowman Expresses Gratitude and Readiness
“I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support I’ve received from Hendrick Motorsports, Ally, our dedicated fans, and the entire medical team throughout this process,” Bowman stated. “It’s been challenging being away from the track, but ensuring I was 100% ready before returning was paramount. I feel really good now, and I’m excited to rejoin my team and get back to racing.”
Rigorous Testing and Medical Evaluation
Bowman underwent a series of tests to prove his fitness for racing. On Tuesday, he completed laps in a streetcar at the Ten Tenths Motor Club road course in Concord. Wednesday saw him participate in pit stop practice, simulator testing, and a comprehensive medical evaluation, ultimately leading to his full clearance without restrictions.
Hendrick Motorsports Welcomes Bowman Back
Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports, expressed his pride in Bowman’s handling of the situation. “We’re proud of Alex and the way he’s handled this situation,” Andrews said. “He’s put a lot of work into his recovery and followed the medical team’s plan every step of the way. Our goal from the beginning was to prioritize his health and ensure he returned when fully recovered and medically cleared. We’re looking forward to seeing Alex back in his race car this weekend.”
Temporary Replacements
During Bowman’s absence, Justin Allgaier skillfully filled in for him at Las Vegas, Darlington, and Martinsville. Anthony Alfredo took the wheel at Phoenix.
