Alavés vs. Osasuna: A La Liga Clash Preview and Insights
Osasuna’s head coach has been quick to praise Alavés, expressing admiration for their recent performance. The team enjoyed a boost in morale with significant fan support during a recent training session at El Sadar.
Training and Player Updates
“Today, we had tremendous support at training here at El Sadar. It was a great day, with many fans coming to show their support. We really felt it and enjoyed it immensely,” the coach stated. Reflecting on the recent international break, he acknowledged the challenges it presents. “I’ve learned that during international breaks, you can’t get much work done. Players leave, and those who are slightly injured are held back. They aren’t very effective weeks. We focused primarily on physical conditioning, and this week went very well, so I’m happy with the break.”
Fortunately, both Víctor and Budimir have returned in good condition. Budimir utilized overnight travel to rest, while Víctor was also fit to join the team without any issues.
Addressing the Víctor Gómez Buzz
The coach addressed the growing attention surrounding Víctor Gómez, stating, “He’s handling it well. It’s a good thing because it means he’s doing things right. If he wasn’t, there wouldn’t be this buzz. He’s a very humble and intelligent player. We talk often to help him manage the attention. He’s very mature, and I’m not worried. That doesn’t mean he won’t have bad games, like everyone else. But that’s it, no need to overthink it.”
Looking Ahead to the Match in Vitoria
The upcoming match against Alavés in Vitoria is anticipated to be a challenging one. “It will be a very difficult match. Playing there is always complicated. They are a very intense team who will likely try to press us. They are very physical, especially with their forwards. They know exactly what they need to do and are competing very well.”
The coach acknowledged the memory of last year’s match in Vitoria, where a single goal prevented Osasuna from qualifying for Europe. “I know what happened, and we’ve talked about that situation. It’s football, that’s just how it is. Opponents compete. They played their game and earned the point that prevented Osasuna from reaching Europe. But it’s football. It’s a new year, a new season, and we need to play as if it never happened.”
Confidence Levels and Recent Form
When asked about which team enters the match with better momentum, the coach responded, “I don’t know. I can say that we are doing well, despite a recent run of not-so-good results. The victory the other day restored our confidence. We are good, eager. And as for them, I really liked the coach they had before, and I really like the one they have now. They’ve done very well in the three games with Quique, they’ve competed very well. They know exactly what they want to do. I don’t know who is at the best point of confidence, but the match will be tough.”
Addressing Away Game Struggles
Osasuna has faced challenges in recent away games. The coach pinpointed the issues, stating, “We lost the thread in Mestalla, especially defensively. In Donosti, we were poor. Beyond the fact that the opponent had a great game, we weren’t at our level, it’s evident. The key is to return to being defensively solid like we were in Mestalla and to make good decisions with the ball, especially in the final third.”
