Elon Musk and Jeffrey Epstein: Newly Released Documents Reveal Extensive Communication
Newly released documents from the Department of Justice (DOJ) have revealed a more extensive and cordial communication between Elon Musk and the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein than previously known. The files detail plans for a potential visit by Musk to Epstein’s private island, Little St. James, raising new questions about the nature of their relationship.
Planning a Visit to Little St. James
Emails released on Friday show Musk and Epstein exchanging messages in 2012 and 2013, attempting to coordinate a trip for Musk to Epstein’s island. While these exchanges didn’t ultimately result in a visit due to logistical challenges, they demonstrate a willingness from both parties to make it happen.
In a December 13, 2013 email, Musk inquired about visiting Epstein during the holidays: “Will be in the BVI/St Bart’s area over the holidays. Is there a good time to visit?” Epstein promptly replied, offering flexibility: “any day 1st – 8th . play it by ear if you want. always space for you.” They settled on January 2nd as a potential date, but Epstein later expressed regret, stating his schedule would keep him in New York. “I was really looking forward to finally spending some time together with just fun as the agenda. so i am very disappointed,” Epstein wrote.
Early Communications and Party Plans
Earlier, in November 2012, Epstein asked Musk about the size of his party for a helicopter trip to the island: “how many people will you be for the heli to island”. Musk responded with a playful inquiry: “Probably just Talulah and me. What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?” Musk later indicated logistical issues prevented the visit on January 2, 2013: “Logistics won’t work this time around.”
Contradicting Previous Statements
These newly released emails appear to contradict Musk’s previous statements regarding his relationship with Epstein. In a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, Musk described Epstein as “obviously a creep” and claimed Epstein “tried repeatedly to get me to visit his island. I declined.” The DOJ documents suggest a more proactive engagement from Musk.
Other Interactions and Connections
The released files also reveal an email from Epstein’s assistant, Lesley Groff, in 2013, arranging a lunch for Epstein at SpaceX. Further exchanges from March 2013 show Epstein congratulating Musk on a successful SpaceX rocket launch.
Musk’s Past Comments and Reactions
Musk has previously faced scrutiny regarding his connections to Epstein. He denied a planned visit in 2014, dismissing a calendar entry as false. He also claimed a photo with Ghislaine Maxwell was the result of her “photobombing” him at a party. Musk has stated he visited Epstein’s Manhattan apartment once with his ex-wife Talulah Riley for research purposes.
Interestingly, Musk has also used Epstein’s name to attack others, accusing Donald Trump of being linked to Epstein and criticizing Bill Gates over his association with the convicted sex offender.
The Broader Context
These emails are part of a larger release of over 3 million documents related to the Epstein investigation. Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting prostitution from a minor and later arrested in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges before his death in prison. The release of these documents continues to shed light on the network of individuals connected to Epstein and the extent of his influence.
