Winter Storm Warning in Effect
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a winter storm warning for much of central Iowa, including Polk, Story, and Marshall counties, extending through 9 a.m. Friday. Accumulations of up to 5 inches of snow have already been reported in central Iowa, creating hazardous travel conditions.
School Closures and Delays
Dozens of Iowa schools have announced two-hour delays for Friday morning, while several others have opted to cancel classes altogether. Here’s a look at some of the affected schools:
- Two-Hour Delays: AGWSR, Ames, Boone, Carroll, Fort Dodge, East Sac County, Gilbert, Manson-Northwest Webster, Marshalltown, Meskwaki Settlement, Paton-Churdan, South Central Calhoun, South Hardin, Southeast Valley, West Marshall, Des Moines Public Schools (Downtown School, Metro Kids Care, staff professional development), Des Moines Prep, and Johnston.
- Canceled Classes: Ankeny, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Waukee, Audubon, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Eagle Grove, Exira-EHK, Greene County Community Schools, Griswold, Latimer-St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Norwalk, Perry St. Patrick’s, Southwest Valley, and Webster City.
- Virtual Learning: Perry Community Schools will operate on a virtual learning day.
