Deepak Chopra and Jeffrey Epstein: A Friendship Under Scrutiny
When the Justice Department released millions of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, bestselling author and wellness guru Deepak Chopra was among those who sought to distance himself from his former friend. He stated he was never involved in any criminal activity and his contact with Epstein was limited.
However, the recently unveiled “Epstein Library” paints a different picture. Hundreds of messages reveal a far more intimate friendship between Chopra and Epstein than previously acknowledged, spanning from 2016 to 2019 – the year Epstein was arrested on sex-trafficking charges. This revelation highlights Epstein’s extensive network within entertainment, academia, and high society, even after his 2008 conviction.
Frequent Communication and Personal Visits
CNN’s review of their correspondence shows regular communication via email and text, with multiple instances of planned in-person meetings. Messages indicate Chopra visited Epstein at his New York City townhouse, South Florida home, and Paris apartment. Over several years, the two exchanged messages on topics ranging from spirituality and health to mutual acquaintances, with Chopra often signing off with “Love” or “XO,” even declaring, “I’m deeply grateful for our friendship.”
A Wellness Guru and a Convicted Offender
Deepak Chopra, who arrived in the US over 50 years ago to practice medicine, is a renowned pioneer in integrative medicine and a prolific author on spirituality, health, and quantum physics. He gained prominence with the support of Oprah Winfrey in the 1990s. His spokesperson has not yet responded to CNN’s requests for comment.
In a recent statement, Chopra expressed sadness over the suffering of Epstein’s victims and acknowledged “poor judgment in tone” in some past exchanges. He maintains he did nothing wrong, stating, “No misconduct.”
Concerning Invitations and Disturbing Exchanges
On at least two occasions, Chopra invited Epstein to bring “girls” on trips to Israel and Switzerland. In a 2017 email, he wrote, “If you want use a fake name. Bring your girls,” and followed up, “Your girls would love it as would you.”
Their conversations took a disturbing turn on other occasions. Discussing former Saudi Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, Chopra remarked she was “v sweet – like your girls.” In a philosophical exchange, Chopra wrote, “Cute girls are aware when they make noises… God is a construct Cute girls are real.” He even offered to find Epstein an “Israeli blonde,” warning she was “militant aggressive and v sexy.”
In one text exchange, Epstein and Chopra discussed a redacted woman. When Epstein asked how Chopra met her, Chopra responded with a statement about her connection to “reality,” to which Epstein replied, “I liked watching you zero in on your prey . Made me smile.” Chopra responded, “I not a predator Just a lover.”
Financial Support and Business Ventures
The DOJ files also reveal Epstein offered financial support to Chopra and discussed business ideas. Epstein offered to connect Chopra with potential partners in the insurance segment for his wellness app, Jiyo. The Chopra Foundation received a $50,000 check from one of Epstein’s foundations in 2017, earmarked for scientific research.
Political Discussions and Final Exchanges
The two men also discussed politics, with Chopra expressing his dismay over Donald Trump’s election. Epstein reassured him, saying, “no no it’s going to be fine.” Chopra shared an article criticizing Trump with Epstein, and once mentioned Ivanka Trump attending one of his meditation sessions.
As Epstein’s legal troubles mounted in early 2019, Chopra continued to offer support. He sent Epstein his “love from India,” to which Epstein responded with a suggestive remark. They also discussed Epstein’s “bad press,” with Chopra advising him to “Stay silent Meditate.”
These revelations raise serious questions about the nature of Chopra’s relationship with Epstein and the extent of his awareness regarding Epstein’s alleged crimes. The full implications of this friendship are still unfolding as more information comes to light.
