A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon as Calgary police were compelled to close 16 Ave. NE in both directions due to a fatal collision. The incident, reported around 2 p.m., involved a single vehicle travelling westbound on 16 Ave., directly beneath the Stoney Trail overpass.

The vehicle tragically impacted one of the concrete supports of the overpass. According to CPS Insp. Rob Patterson, “We can definitely tell you that he ended up leaving the road at some time just in front of the post here, but we are investigating just how far back he might have lost control.”

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Collision Reconstruction Unit was dispatched to the scene to meticulously investigate the cause of the crash. While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary assessments suggest that speed was a significant contributing factor. This incident highlights the importance of safe driving practices and adherence to speed limits.
