WMUR Weather Update: Winter Weather Impacts New Hampshire
A challenging mix of snow and sleet is continuing across southern and central New Hampshire, extending into early Friday. This winter weather is creating hazardous travel conditions and requires extra caution on the roads.
Timeline of the Winter Storm
The weather system arrived in the Granite State on Thursday evening, initially as rain. It quickly transitioned to freezing rain, resulting in slushy and slippery roadways. While areas north of the Mount Washington Valley and through the Great North Woods may experience only a light dusting, central and southern New Hampshire are bearing the brunt of the storm.
Snowfall Predictions & Hazardous Conditions
Most areas south of the White Mountains are forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow. However, some southern locations, particularly south of the Lakes Region, could see accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Roads will remain treacherous Friday morning, with slick spots posing a significant risk during the commute. The heaviest precipitation is expected between 7 and 8 a.m., with the possibility of lingering spotty light drizzle or freezing drizzle later in the morning.
Temperature Outlook & Weekend Forecast
Temperatures will remain cold throughout Friday, with highs only reaching the 30s. Fortunately, a warming trend is expected over the weekend, offering some relief from the frigid conditions.
